Tei Shi
Tei Shi
Meet Tei Shi, an Argentina-born songstress who spent her early years moving frequently across Bogota, Vancouver and later Boston. Tei Shi is the moniker of Valerie Teicher, an artist who now calls New York City home and whose star has been rising steadily since she released her debut track "M&Ms" in the summer of 2013. The song spread like wildfire in the blog world, including Gorilla vs Bear who described the track as a "soulful, time-stretching future pop gem." Her debut EP Saudade, was the result of a collaboration with producer Luca Buccellati and was met with much critical acclaim. Since then, Tei Shi hasn't stopped, playing music festivals across North America as well as her own sold out dates. Teicher has also collaborated with the UK's rock band Glass Animals on the track "Holiest" which debuted at #1 on Hype Machine. With the coming of Spring 2015, Tei Shi will be releasing her new EP Verde. The latest release will be yet another musical step forward for the artist and includes her infectious and irresistible single "Bassically," a "rippling nu-disco-esque jam" (V Magazine) that has leapt well over 1 million streams on Spotify after a few months. On April 14th, Verde will be released on Mermaid Ave/Mom+Pop in the US/Mexico, Double Denim in the UK/EU/Japan, and Caroline in Australia/New Zealand.
Lawrence Rothman
Lawrence Rothman
Lawrence Rothman is a Los Angeles musician with tremendous talent and grand vision. The music of Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Bryan Ferry, the writings of Sam Pink and the art of Mike Kelly are his influences. For his forthcoming debut album Lawrence works with acclaimed producer Justin Raisen (Charli XCX, Sky Ferriera, Ariel Pink, etc) to create an ambitious sound. Together they made a full scope, genre bending album, recorded in various studios across LA with distinguished musicians from Warpaint, Beck, Autolux, Jack White, John Lennon, the Yeah Yeah Yeah's (Nick Zinner), etc. The album also features guest vocals from Angel Olsen, Kim Gordon, Charli XCX, Soko, and Ariel Pink. His videos are shot by revered director Floria Sigismondi, cohesively matching the cinematic scope of his music. Lawrence is an unusual character whom embodies many alters without much explanation - sometimes an Albino guy or a bald tattooed metal head, a beat up hipster or Elizabeth Taylor - just to preview a few. It's rare to have the music, imagery and the compelling lead figure all be outstanding and aligned. This is the case for Lawrence Rothman. His debut album "The Book of Law" out in 2016 on Downtown Records.
